The Drupal help website aims to provide users with comprehensive guides to understanding and working with the Drupal content management system (CMS).

Drupal is a CMS used by a number of organizations to build and maintain websites. One of Drupal's most powerful features is its access control system. Drupal's users are assigned roles and granted permissions to perform tasks such as adding, editing and managing the content of a site.

There are 3 user roles within the Appalachian Drupal system:

  1. Authors: The author user role is an authenticated user with the ability to create, but not publish content. Content created by authors should be submitted to a moderator for review and publishing.
  2. Moderators:  In addition to having permissions to create, edit and publish most types of content, this user role can approve or deny (moderate) content generated by those assigned to the author role. Moderators are also granted access to a number of site building features such as creating blocks and menus. In addition to having their own set of permissions, moderators inherit all of the permissions granted to authors. As needed, moderators may be granted additional permissions from their respective Drupal Administrator.
  3. Administrators: This user role is allowed the maximum permissions and is typically assigned to users who will perform administrative tasks within the content management system, such as creating users, assigning roles, implementing themes, viewing site activity logs, and so on. Administrators logically inherit all of the author and moderator permissions.
